Friends of Ambler

Friends of Ambler is a registered charity, which aids the Ambler Primary School and Children’s Centre in providing the best possible learning environment. The group, established in 2013-14, aims to:

raise funds for facilities, equipment and events not normally provided for by the Local Authority;
help school families and carers get to know each other better by arranging social events and providing accessible information; and
forge and maintain links between the school and the local community and businesses.

Every parent or carer is automatically part of Friends of Ambler when their child starts at Ambler School or Children’s Centre. We welcome all and encourage participation either through joining the committee, volunteering at events or helping in other ways, such as donating time and skills.

Every year we organise a mixture of events, which range in focus. Some are just for fun events- such as school discos, movie nights and the Winter Day of Fun for the kids, and the summer garden party for the adults and staff. Others are put on in order to raise money, such as our online silent auction, the adult fundraisers (comedy nights, 80s nights, quiz nights etc.) and the Summer Fair. Others are to try and encourage sustainability such as the second hand uniform swaps.

When it comes to spending the money raised, we are entirely school led. In the past, we have funded school trips, workshops, playground equipment, computer equipment, the school sensory space, and money towards staff wellbeing.

We also work hard to forge relationships in the local community. We have set up a loyalty scheme with the Bookbar (they donate a book to an Ambler pupil for every 10 books bought there) and have an ongoing relationship with Winkworth.
